Designing your own landscape garden is quick and easy in MacDraft. We have borken it down into 5 simple steps.

You can start by using one of our template documents where the scale, units and page size will be set. You’ll then need to change the setting yourself, by selecting Layout > Set Scale/Units… and File > Page Setup…
If you’re drawing a new blank landscape design, you can set your scale, units and page setup via the ‘Create a new MacDraft document’ option via the Welcome Screen. Here you can choose the scale, unit type, decimal place, page size and more and then click the ‘Create’ button to open a blank document with the settings you’ve chosen.
2. Draw your outline
MacDraft includes large range of tools and options for drawing shapes, curves and lines quickly and easily. Use the tools to draw the outlines for your orders, grass areas, patios and possibly the edge of the boundaries. You can then use the options displayed in the Properties panel, when an object is selected, to alter its size, line styles and more. You can even control the background color of your design to make it easier to setup a working template for your landscape designs.
3. Add existing elements and structures
There may be parts of your initial layout that are fixed structures or ground elements that you will not be working o in your designs, but require to better understand the landscape design idea and positioning. Add these elements from hundreds of pre-drawn symbols, by dragging and dropping them into the drawing from the Library panel, accessed using the Command + Y shortcut. If you can’t quite find what you’re looking for you can use a closely matched symbol and customize it yourself.
4. Add new landscape design elements
Now that you have your outline and fixed design parts added, you can start to build up your landscape design concept with new elements. Add trees, flowers and shrubbery to your design. Resize and position until you’re happy with how it looks. Draw pathways, walkways and stairs. Then start to add key elements, such as pools, ponds, furnitures, sheds and gazebos, that you intend to install.
5. Add colors, patterns and textures
MacDraft Home and Garden includes a large number of realistic patterns and textures that can be used in your drawings. Add grass, soil, brick, slabs, paving, decking, gravel and much more to your landscape design. You can even create your own textures ad materials by clicking the Plus (+) symbol in the Swatches panel and choosing New Pattern, New Color or New Gradient. If you have a swatch image for a particular material you’re using such as paving or stone, you can paste the image into the New Pattern window to create an exact pattern for use in your landscape designs.
