The Smart Snap, Object Snap and Guide Snapping has now been improved to provide snapping support while you draw and move your shapes. This gives you complete control over the positioning and alignment of the objects in your layouts. In addition to this we have implemented the ability to snap to objects between layers, this will allow you to have more control over the content in different layers. For added control, we have implemented the options to turn the snapping on and off for each feature, just to give you absolute control over your drawings.
MacDraft always had the ability to snap to the objects handles, but as MacDraft has progressed in its complexity and flexibility over the years, the need for a more advanced snapping system was needed. A smart snapping system was implemented that would not only allow the you to snap while you are dragging your items, but while you draw also. Snapping while drawing, dragging and resizing through the use of smart reference lines, will speed up your design process by reducing the amount of time you spend on positioning your objects.
To improve the snapping system in MacDraft 7, the most obvious choice was to implement the ability to snap to content in other layers. This facility would mean you could create layers for simple or complex drawings that would contain objects that could be drawn and snapped to other content in other layers. The perfect exampe of this would be if you were working on a floor plan and wanted the walls, furniture and dimensions on separte layers. You could draw the walls on one layer, then in a second layer you could add the furniture, but with layer snapping you’ll be able to position the furniture much easier and align/snap them to key elements of the rooms. The third layer could then be for the dimensions and with the layer snapping you’ll be able to snap the ends of the dimensions lines to the correct wall elements in the first layer.
The Smart Snap system has had a welcome boost in MacDraft 7, where you’ll now be able to snap to other elements in the drawing while you draw, resize and move objects. During the development of MacDraft 7, we have always kept the efficiency and speed of use in the back of our minds and have tried to implement features that would not only make using MacDraft easier, but speed up your design process. With this in mind we decided to take a look at the limitations in the Smart Snap system. Although this was already a powerful addition to MacDraft, we wanted to take it one step further and allow you to snap to other objects while you’re drawing, making it easier for you to position and manage the content of your layouts faster than in any other version. In short, this means you’ll be able to snap to other objects edges and centers or reference lines from those elements while your drawing, positioning and resizing your other objects.
Guide lines were a welcome addition to the previous version of MacDraft, but it had a few limitations that we wanted to address in MacDraft 7. We have now added the ability to snap to guides while you draw as well as snapping while resizing and moving. This now means that your guides can be used fully throughout your drawings and layouts and will make positioning objects in your frames much easier and faster. Guides are an excellent feature when producing page layouts, engineering drawings and other layout types that require referencing to other elements in your documents.
Snapping to your grids is a huge importance for any layout application, especially when working on complex CAD drawings. In addition to the standard grid snapping feature we have included a new grid type. The new Square Grid will make positioning and snapping simple for those who prefer to use a more tranditional graph style grid for their layouts. The grid snap system will work in the same way as before, but with the square grid reference lines, positioning and drawing will be easier and quicker.
