MacDraft 7 is now 64 bit compatible and with that brings a much faster and more efficient drawing process. MacDraft now has access to the full power of your machine and is fully compatible with future operating systems. The new 64 bit system has meant that MacDraft 7 has been rewritten from the ground up using only the latest code and resources making MacDraft 7 the most stable and efficient version to date. In addition to this, the new code base has meant we could provide some, frankly awesome, system features such as AutoSave, Full Screen Mode, Versions, Sharing and more.
For years we have considered the mammoth task of rewriting MacDraft to bring a new fresh product to you all, but for a long while opted to continue supporting older operating systems and maintain the older code. However, with the recent announcment by Apple stating that the next operating system after MacOS Mojave will only support 64 bit, we were back to the original question of updating the product step by step or completely rewriting the code.
This brings us to MacDraft 7, where we decided a complete rewrite was the best option as this would allow us to implement all new features and improvements that are expected of a modern Mac application. With all of the code modernised we were able to improve the stability and efficiency of MacDraft and increase it’s power through new features, modern system benefits and most importantly bringing MacDraft 7 to 64 bit compatiblity. MacDraft 7 is over twice as fast as previous versions, has a much more stable document system protected by the AutoSave feature and gives a more efficient, yet familiar design experience.
What makes a Mac a Mac? The state-of-the-art technology incorporated into your Mac is what gives you the Mac experience. All of the modern Macs include the powerful 64-bit processors and combining those with running advanced 64-bit apps, means MacDraft 7 will now be able to access dramatically more memory and enable much faster performance. Access to more memory and processing power means that Macdraft 7 will be able to do all your tasks much faster and more efficiently than ever before.
The technologies that are available in today’s Macs that provide the Mac experience are only available to 64-bit apps and to make sure that MacDraft is advanced as the Mac you’re running it on we decided the best thing would be to rewrite the program with 64-bit compatibility. In addition, the 64 bit compatibility will guarantee that MacDraft 7 and any future versions will be fully compatible with MacOS Mojave and future MacOS operating systems, giving you the confidence that you’ll be using a product not only supported by us, but supported by future Mac systems.
With the rewrite of the MacDraft 7 to a 64-bit app, we were able to bring full screen support, which means you can use every inch of your screen and work on your designs without having any other desktop distractions. Full screen support has become a standard for any modern Mac app, especially design and layout products. Whether you want to use full screen mode all of the time or not, the ability to use all of your screen size and work on your designs without any distractions, is fundemental for any design process. With full screen in mind the 64-bit rewrite allowed us to utilize the system functions and options - such as - toolbar items and glyphs, to reformat the interface to a single screen, making MacDraft 7 function perfectly in full screen mode.
We have all experienced a crash or two while using an app, but its the loss of work that frustrates us the most. MacDraft 7 64-bit has incorporated the system AutoSave feature, which gives you the confidence that your documents are protected at all times. The AutoSave feature periodically saves the state of your document into a temp file, which it will use to access when opening MacDraft after an unexpected closure, crash or power outage. This means that while your working on your documents, should the unspeakable happen (a dreaded crash or spinning wheel), MacDraft will have stored your document as an AutoSave temporary file allowing you to safely reopen the app and continue working. None of this would have been possible if we hadn’t rewritten the code as a 64-bit app.
We have all experienced moments when we wish we could go back to a certain point in our drawings, without having to undo a million times. MacDraft 7 has now been able to utilise the system Revert To option, for maintaining versions of your drawings. This means you can browse different versions of your documents much like the way the Time Machine backups work and choose to revert back to that state. This gives you absolute control over your design process at any stage...... And let’s be honest... Time travel is cool!
